The system combines a high-quality epoxy binder with an engineered blend of graded aggregates. Specifically engineered to provide superior trowel-ability, compressive/ tensile strength, impact, and chemical resistance for use in industrial and commercial applications such as warehouse floors, ramps, loading docks, and rebuilding joint nosings.

Features & Benefits

  • Solvent-free (VOC-compliant)
  • Dries to a light gray mortar color
  • Moisture insensitive/stain resistant
  • USDA accepted for indirect food contact
  • Foot traffic in 12 hours; vehicle in 24 hours
  • Pre-measured proportions for easy installation
  • Long pot life for applications between 60-90°F
  • Superior abrasion, chemical & impact resistance
  • Use for high traffic areas i.e. loading docks, ramps
  • Trowel-able consistency for horizontal applications
  • Superior bond, compressive, and flexural strength when compared to cementitious systems

Application

Surface Preparation

  • Cleaning the Surface: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dirt, laitance, curing compounds, and other foreign materials. Mechanical abrasion or sandblasting is recommended to remove contaminants and create a suitable bonding profile.

Mixing and Application

  • Mixing Instructions: Ensure air, material, and surface temperatures are between 50°F and 90°F. Precondition materials to approximately 70°F for easier mixing. Mix components separately before combining. Mix one part of component A with one part of component B by volume for 2-3 minutes. Gradually add part C (aggregate) to the mixed components, ensuring all aggregates are thoroughly coated.
  • Placing the Mortar: Apply the mixed epoxy mortar immediately, or within 30-40 minutes, to the prepared surface using a trowel or rake. Use SpecChem Solvent 100 as a finishing aid for a smooth finish. For increased texture and improved traction, broadcast additional dry sand into the wet mortar immediately after application.

Coverage and Curing

  • Coverage: A 1/2 cubic foot unit at a 1/4” thickness covers approximately 24 sq-ft.
  • Curing: SpecPoxy Mortar cures to a light gray mortar color, ready for foot traffic in 12 hours and vehicle traffic in 24 hours.

Cleaning

  • Tool Cleaning: Clean tools and equipment immediately with an appropriate solvent before the material hardens.

Packaging

  • 1/2 cubic foot unit: Component A (1/2 gal), Component B (1/2 gal), Component C (1-50 lb. bag)
  • 1.0 cubic foot unit: Component A (1 gal), Component B (1 gal), Component C (2–50 lb. bags)

Shelf Life

  • Store in its original containers in a dry environment between 45-95°F.
  • The shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture when properly stored.

  • Compressive Strength (ASTM C579): 9,600 psi
  • Bond Strength (ASTM C882): 2,650 psi
  • Tensile Strength (ASTM C307): 1,650 psi
  • Flexural Strength (ASTM C580): 3,450 psi
  • Hardness (ASTM D570 Shore D): 85
  • Water Absorption (ASTM D570) @ 24hrs: <0.5%
  • Pot Life @ 75°F: 40-60 minutes
  • Coverage for 1/2 cu-ft unit @ 1/4″: 24 sq-ft

Cleaning

  • Tools and equipment can be cleaned with SpecChem Orange Peel Citrus Cleaner or other approved solvents. Mechanical removal is necessary for cured material.
